Feels like Fall

The crisp mornings, visits to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch, the smell of applesauce simmering on the stovetop all day and apple slices drying in the oven, the ping of freshly sealed canning jars, collecting and pressing colorful leaves for art projects with the kiddos, sweaters, pumpkin pie… I just love this time of year!

This particular fall is proving to be busier than ever, with the addition of four people to our home. My sister and her three kids are staying with us for a while, and while we love having them here, it is certainly an adjustment to the normal rhythym and pace of our lives. We are adjusting, but to be honest, these days are leaving me too exhausted to do much of anything beyond crashing on the couch when the kids are all in bed. I’m barely keeping up with laundry and dishes, let alone blogging! So, in the name of a good night’s sleep, I leave you with pictures. No particular order, and not necessarily any rhyme or reason:

darn apple peeler was dull and stripped out, and was more trouble than it was worth. Miles could tell I was frustrated and told me “Don’t be sad, Mama. When something seems bad, you just have to try to find something good.” I love that boy!

the dried apples were very good!

Rainbow chard! Still (the only thing) going strong in the garden!

Telling tales

the kids helped me brainstorm ideas for a set of story blocks, and they have been playing with them non-stop! Each block is a different category- one has characters, one has settings, one has tools, one has modes of transportation, etc…

Happy Fall!
