Feeling a bit better…

I am still waiting find out if I will be able to see a specialist, but am feeling a bit better today. There really isn’t anything that can be done until I do, so why stress myself out? I have been doing a bit of research and found out that the medication I am taking, Synthroid, only contains contains the thyroid hormone T4. Most people’s bodies can convert T4 into T3, so Synthroid works great in many cases. A few people need medications that contain both T4 and T3. I still don’t know much about this, but it certainly gives me some questions to ask once I get in to see an endocrinologist. When I first started taking Synthroid, many people told me that I would feel so much better and have so much more energy, but I never really experienced that. I did feel better, just never really great. I came to expect that I would always be tired. I started to wonder if maybe I was just lazy. My old endocrinologist even told me once (when he wasn’t being a complete ***) that for my weight, my body should have been responding better to the dose of Synthroid that he had me on. But he was hesitant to put me on more because of my small size. Now that I am pregnant, it seems that my body is responding even less to the Synthroid. Hmmmm… could it be that I need something with T3 as well? The thought that maybe, just maybe there is something that could help with my chronic exhaustion and actually get my thyroid levels in check is encouraging.

Anyways, enough boring medical rambling for now….Last night we went to Tontitown for the annual Grape Festival. It was my first time to go and I was expecting more, well, grapes. I have after all been craving them lately. We got there, and it was pretty much just a carnival. Did I mention that I hate carnivals? Especially when it’s nearly 100 degrees outside? I searched for the grapes and finally, waaaay in the back corner was one little tent where a man was selling fresh picked grapes. Mmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!! I don’t think I have ever tasted anything so heavenly in all my life. Seriously. If you have only ever had supermarket grapes, you are missing out! They can’t even be compared to the flavorful, wonderful, delicious grapes I have been munching on all morning. I have discovered that I actually even like green grapes when they are fresh from the vine!

Other than napping and munching on grapes, I really haven’t been doing too much. That will all change when school starts next week. Yikes! I am so NOT ready! One thing I have been doing is making stuff for the baby. Lots and lots of stuff for the baby=) Here are a few I have been working on lately (besides the diapers, which are almost done!):

  1. I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now, I found it on my sis-n-law’s blog (The Ben Show). I thought I would delurk to tell you that sweater is adorable! I would love to be able to make things like that for myself! You’re very creative!

  2. Love the sweater! And you are possibly the most adorable pregnant lady ever – love the pics! I was looked frumpy in every picture!!! Oh, and don’t worry about stressing. I kept it a secret from my husband (for good reasons) but it is actually proven that if you are stressed, it doesn’t actually harm the baby. Hopefully you will get into a competent doctor soon, but in the mean time hang in there!

  3. We went to an apple festival a few years ago, because we heard it was a great time. We didn’t have a great time and just like your grape man, there was one apple man. We haven’t been back. 🙂

  4. Oh I am so happy for you guys. I remember the grape festival, we even tried the grape ice cream, buy my favorite was the spaghetti (yummy!) and the kettle corn. How far along are you now? I think your tummy looks so cute and we will pray that you feel better. PS. I love your creations, I was supposed to learn to knit whilst being pg; but, usually choose sleeping instead. Oh well, I guess baby Nate will just not have a clever and creative mommy.

  6. Hey again, I just wanted to let you know that from my experience of the first trimester and from hearing about others who don’t even have thyroid issues. Extreme exhaustion is very normal during the first trimester. I had it and it was SO overwelming. I could nap for hours in the afternoon and still want to go to bed at 8 in the evening. It isn’t fun at all but it may not be all related to your thyroid. My exhuastion got better once I got to my second trimester. I hope yours does to! You have a ton to look forward to. 🙂 It just gets better and better as the baby grows.

    I do hope that you can find the right dose/medication for your thyroid though-that is important irregardless. 🙂
